Suspect Arrested in Pec/Peja Murder
A 42 year-old K-Albanian man was shot to death in a restaurant near Pec/Peja on June 6th. Gjviet Osmanaj was in a café in the village of Nova Seta on the Montenegro Road when a man approached. The man fired several shots from an AK-47 at the victim, fatally wounding him. The gunman then fled.
KPS officers investigating the case identified the suspect, located him, and arrested him on June 7th. In custody is a 42 year-old K-Albanian man. The murder weapon has also been recovered.
Death Investigation Leads to Murder Arrest
On June 6th, UNMIK Police in Kacanik were called to the village of Ivaja by a 21 year-old who had found his father dead in the forest. The victim, Nebi Kvqi, was a 57 year-old Shepard who had gone to work on June 5th. When he did not come home, the son started searching and found his body in a remote area of the forest.
The responding officers could not initially determine the cause of death as the victim's injuries could have occurred in an accident, possibly a fall. Investigators have now confirmed that the victim was struck on the head and murdered.
Police also identified a suspect, a 67 year-old K-Albanian man who has been arrested.
Armed Attacker Shot and Killed
Shortly before Midnight on June 8th, a K-Albanian male attacker entered the
home of a K-Roma man in the village of Opterusha, near Orahovac. He stabbed
one of the occupants and fled. The same attacker later returned with a handgun
and shot the man he had earlier stabbed. The father of the victim then shot
and killed the attacker with a rifle.
The victim who had been stabbed and shot survived. Both the handgun and the
rifle have been recovered. Police are investigating the reason for this violent
incident.
Pristina Murder Investigation Launched
Police in Pristina are investigating the circumstances of a shooting that
resulted in the death of a K-Albanian female on June 9th. The victim and a male
friend were inside a flat when she was shot, and she later died of the wound.
The 23 year-old male friend of the victim has been detained for investigation.
Traffic Checkpoints
Throughout most of Kosovo, UNMIK Police and the KPS conduct regular, random checkpoints at which people and vehicles are stopped & searched.
On June 7th, a checkpoint near Decani resulted in the identification and arrest of a K-Albanian man wanted for Rape. Yesterday, a checkpoint near Leposavic resulted in the discovery of 17 kilograms of illegal narcotics in a vehicle. Two K-Serbian men were arrested.
Other road checks are regularly discovering wanted people, recovering stolen vehicles, seizing false documents, and finding smuggled goods.
There will be no freedom of movement for criminals inside Kosovo.
