UNMIK Police personel

Secretary-General Kofi Annan on 26 October 1999, after receiving a recommendation from Dr. Kouchner, recommended that the Security Council increase the authorized strength of the UNMIK police force by more than 1,600 officers to 4,718 ( including 1100 special police) to ensure that UNMIK had a police service that could enforce and maintain civil order.

As of 10th Sept.2002, UNMIK has 4468 international police and 4933 KPS officers deployed in all five regions of the province and at border crossings.

49 Participating Countries

The international police component in the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo consist of officers sent by their home countries to serve with the UN. Despite the disparities between their respective policing experiences at home, all of them meet the international standards of policing required by the UN.
