UNMIK PILLARS
 
The United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo is built upon four basic pillars. The International Police TaskForce is under Pillar I. It is commanded by the Police Commissioner. He exercises all operational, technical and disciplinary authority over all police personnel. The Commissioner reports to the Special Representative of the Secretary General.

POLICE STRUCTURE
 
The UNMIK Police headquarters are in Pristina. Following chain of command, HQ supervise their specialized sections as well as the three components, the UNMIK Police is made up of: Civilian Police, Special Police Units and Border Police. CIVPOL has five regional headquarters in Pristina, Pec, Gnjilane, Prizren and Mitrovica. The regional HQ supervise police stations located in their area of responsibility. Special Operations units conduct high risk and confidential mission activities such as dignitary protection and hostage rescue.
