BARAYBAR
Born in Lima, Peru on October 1st, 1964, he has been
a supporter of human rights since studying at the University of San
Marcos in Lima, from which he obtained a BA in Social Sciences. He has
worked on the recovery and analysis of human remains in archaeological
contexts from the beginning of his career. He later applied his professional
background to the forensic investigation of human rights abuses.
He obtained a Masters in Science at the University
of London and spent one year on the University of Illinois’ doctoral
program.
He worked as a consultant in forensic anthropology in various countries
including: Argentina, Peru, Guatemala, Ethiopia and Congo.
He joined the United Nations in 1995 working
for the International Civilian Mission to Haiti (MICIVIH), after which
he joined the International Criminal Tribunal in Rwanda and later for
the former Yugoslavia. He has worked as forensic expert for the Office
of the Prosecutor in Rwanda, Bosnia, Croatia and Kosovo.
