DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE LAUNCHES PUBLIC INFORMATION AND AWARENESS CAMPAIGN TODAY

PRISTINA - The Department of Education and Science (DES) is launching a broad Public Awareness Information Campaign on Education today.  The campaign will run for two weeks, until August 31st.

The campaign aims to inform all stakeholders of the work achieved to date, ongoing activities, successes, challenges, and future plans in the education sector.

"The real stakeholders in education are the people.  Only an informed society can become a civil society, and knowledge about education shall rank equally with economic and social considerations," states Michael Daxner, Co-Head of the DES.

Through a series of presentations and interaction, the campaign will address key issues such as the draft regulations on general and vocational education, and higher education; minority issues; teacher training; the accomplishments achieved by the lead agencies; budget problems; and an outlook on the new academic year beginning on 3rd September for schools and on 1st October for the university.

In addition, the DES seeks to involve all stakeholders in a public debate, especially on education laws, school regulations, and most of all, on the reforms in Education in such domains as curriculum development, standards and assessment, teacher training, pilot schools, and special needs education. The campaign will encourage feedback from the public and kindle the on-going debate about the modernisation of schooling and higher education for Kosovars in Kosovo.

The DES would like to call the entire public sector to become actively involved in this campaign, and for the media to lend support in reaching the larger population in Kosovo.
