UNMIK/PR/643 KTC Devotes Session to Statements of Support and Outrage over US Tragedy PDSRSG Gary Matthews, who led today's Kosovo Transitional Council, expressed his gratitude to the speakers from political parties, civil society and ethnic and religious organizations all of whom offered statements of support, shock and dismay over yesterday's events in the US. All KTC members endorsed the holding of a "manifestation" today at 3 p.m. in front of Pristina's National Theater, and many called today a day of mourning for all of Kosovo. "As a representative of the United Nations and as an American, I am grateful for the statements and solidarity you have shown and will pass on your messages to John Menzies, head of the US mission here," Mr. Matthews said. Also in today's KTC session, acting police commissioner Thom Hacker described the investigation into the shooting early Tuesday morning of two Kosovo Police Service members who had been trying to stop a cattle theft in their home village of Petrovce near Gnjilane. In the ensuing gun battle Officer Lazim Rexhepi was killed and Offier Avdullah Musliu seriously injured. An ethnic Albanian suspect was also killed. Kosovo Police Service investigators have arrested one ethnic Albanian suspect and are searching for several others whose identity has been established.
