Acting SRSG Tom Koenigs Offers Congratulations for Nobel Peace Prize

"I am pleased and proud today to hear of the selection of the United Nations and Secretary General Kofi Annan to share the Nobel Peace Prize," said Tom Koenigs, Acting SRSG of the UN Mission in Kosovo.

"Joining all UN staff in Kosovo, I would like to offer my heartfelt congratulations to our Secretary General and my thanks to the Nobel Committee for this honor."

"We of UNMIK are particularly honored and appreciative of this recognition of the UN's contribution to world peace.  In Kosovo, not only are we building peace, but we are helping the people put in place an administrative structure for self-governance.  And the Secretary General has always given his personal, full and unwavering support to our work here."

"Sometimes it is easy to believe that the world forgets what the UN is accomplishing.   But with the bestowal of the Nobel Peace Prize today, we are reassured in our convictions that the work we are doing is important for world peace and that we are making a difference in people's lives."
