New UNMIK-Coordinator for the Kosovo Protection Corps
appointed
PRISTINA Yesterday, Major General Andrew Cumming took up his new
post as the Kosovo Protection Corps (KPC) Co-ordinator for the UN Mission
in Kosovo (UNMIK).
SRSG Michael Steiner had recently appointed Major General Cumming as
KPC Coordinator. His role will involve working with the KPC and UNMIK
to identify training requirements and assist in the development of the
KPC as a professional organisation.
British Foreign Office Minister Denis MacShane welcomed the appointment
and said:
"I am pleased that the Foreign Office is able to support this new
appointment. Major General Cumming has served previously in the Balkans
and will bring his significant experience to this important and challenging
role.
"The appointment underlines the UK Governments continuing
commitment to Kosovo. The KPC Co-ordinator, representing UNMIK, will play
a key role in directing and implementing the development of the KPC.
UNMIK SRSG Michael Steiner thanked the Foreign Office for their support
and said:
I very much welcome having such an experienced and accomplished
senior officer for this important appointment.
