MESSAGE OF CONGRATULATIONS FOLLOWING THE GENERAL ELECTION IN MACEDONIA

SRSG Michael Steiner said today that he was delighted at how well the elections in Macedonia had been conducted and that he had sent a letter warmly congratulating Mr. Crvenkovski on his victory. [Letter attached - PDF format]

In a telephone call to President Trajkovski, Mr. Steiner said he had been extremely impressed by the fair, efficient and democratic way the polls had been organized as well as by the calm and dignified behavior of the voters themselves.

As he told the President on the telephone, “Chapeau to all the Macedonian people.”

The SRSG emphasised that the exemplary conduct of these elections will give renewed impetus to cooperation with our valued neighbor.
