SRSG visits International Fair AGROKOS

PRISTINA – SRSG Michael Steiner visited today the International Fair AGROKOS in the youth center “Boro Ramizi” in Pristina. The exposition that was opened today shows agricultural goods, animals, feed and food processing technology, and household technology. Around 60 companies are presenting their products. SRSG Michael Steiner went through the fair and talked to the exhibitors who are mainly from Kosovo, but also from Albania, Macedonia und Bulgaria.

SRSG Michael Steiner welcomed the initiative to organize a fare focused on agricultural products, processing companies and household goods. “Here is a market that has a future in Kosovo, because you can find in Kosovo the basic materials, the know-how and the customers for these goods”, he said. SRSG Michael Steiner stressed that the economic development of Kosovo has the highest priority for UNMIK. “The economy is the key issue for Kosovo’s future. Entrepreneurial initiative is therefore crucial to fight against unemployment, but also to increase Kosovo’s budget.”

The International Fare “AGROKOS” offers customers and contractors the opportunity to meet. Besides that, conferences and forums will be held on agricultural, processing and marketing themes. Open workshops and interview hours will feature politicians and specialists from several fields.

AGROKOS is organised by a private company from Pristina. Partners are the Kosovan Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the University of Pristina and various non-governmental organizations. The fare will be open until the 15 october 2002
