SRSG Opens Private Gas Terminal

PRISTINA – SRSG Michael Steiner opened today together with Kosovo’s President Ibrahim Rugova a private enterprise for liquefied petroleum gas in Fushë Kosova/Kosovo Polje. The company “Standard Plin” is a joint venture of a Swiss and a Kosovan firm. The gas terminal will supply gas to domestic and industrial users, as well as the necessary equipment for gas using facilities.

“Gas is a clean and safe alternative to electric energy”, said SRSG Michael Steiner, “the gas terminal is also good for KEK, because we need to be careful with the use of electricity.” SRSG Michael Steiner and President Ibrahim Rugova cut together the official band to inaugurate the terminal; then the SRSG filled the first cylinder with gas.

Walking around the Gas Terminal SRSG Michael Steiner said: “These are the efforts we need. They represent the future of Kosovo.”

The terminal provides jobs for 50 people through an overseas investment of eight million Euros.
