SRSG visits UNMIK and KTA premises in northern Mitrovica

PRISTINA/MITROVICA – SRSG Michael Steiner visited today the new UNMIK offices in northern Mitrovica. They are being refurbished at the moment. “The smell of the paint is the smell of progress”, said SRSG Michael Steiner. Municipal Administrator John Rogers and his deputy Ramesh Abhishek, who is the head of the UNMIK office in northern Mitrovica, accompanied the SRSG who was very pleased with the fast renovation of the premises. “We aim to show that we provide services to the people”, he said.

SRSG Michael Steiner then visited the building that will be converted into the building of the Kosovo Trust Agency (KTA). There he met Lars Jensen, the deputy head of the KTA.

In a short press conference, the SRSG talked about the importance of multi-ethnicity in Kosovo. He said “Multi–ethnicity is the aim for all of Kosovo and Mitrovica is part of Kosovo. What we want are truly functioning multi-ethnic institutions throughout Kosovo.”

After having a coffee in northern Mitrovica, SRSG Michael Steiner crossed the bridge to the southern part of the city and walked through the market, where he talked to store holders and shoppers.
