‘Status Issue of Kosovo open’, Says Acting
SRSG Charles Brayshaw
PRISTINA - The Serbian deputy Prime Minister Nebojsa Covic recently made
an announcement on final status for Kosovo. Mr. Covic asserted in his
statement that Kosovo must remain part of Serbia.
Reacting to his comments, Acting SRSG Charles Brayshaw said, “UN
Security Council resolution 1244 leaves the status issue of Kosovo open.
This is something which will be decided by the Security Council at an
appropriate time. Kosovo is administered by UNMIK under this resolution
and is proceeding as mandated to establish substantial autonomy and self-government.
As SRSG Michael Steiner has stated, final status will not be determined
in Belgrade or Pristina.”
