KOSTUNICA CONFIRMED THAT "YUGOSLAVIA" DOES NOT EXIST EU chiefs confirmed at the summit in Biarritz that 200 million Euros would be distributed as urgent aid to Serbia. On the last day of EU summit, a special guest was the newly elected president of the so-called FRY, Vojislav Kostunica. He said at the press briefing that "Yugoslavia" does not exist any more. "We have now a name that is not adequate for the country we are living in. My idea is that we should call our country the Federation of Serbia and Montenegro, and if you think that this name is too long then I have to remind you that there are countries with longer names", said Kostunica to EU chiefs. He added that he would recognize the results of an eventual referendum in Montenegro, however he also forewarned that a referendum would be held in Serbia about how relations should be settled between Serbia and Montenegro. Concerning Kosovo, Kostunica answer was unclear he said, "Kosovo is under international protectorate and I fully respect UN Security Council Resolution 1244", said Kostunica. When asked to clarify his statement "that every Serb that forgets the NATO bombings will lose his identity", Kostunica added, "There are things that are very hard to forget. If you forget something that happened yesterday then you lose your identity. One’s identity is formed from events in the past, the present and dreams", said Kostunica. He was asked to clarify another statement "that for Milosevic there is still room in Serb politics", Kostunica said that he was misquoted and added, "that for Milosevic there is no future in Serbian politics". French President Jacques Chirac welcomed Kostunica to "the European family…where all the Balkan people belong". Chirac said that the road to Europe is not going to be easy, adding, however, that "things are coming along faster then anywhere else". BROVINA:"I DO NOT ACCEPT THAT MY CASE IS DIVIDED FROM
OTHERS" "From the beginning, I am fully aware that I am a hostage of a regime as are my brothers and sisters, who are imprisoned in Serb jails. In no way do I accept that my case is divided from the others. I informed my husband that if the court decides to release me I would, if possible, prefer to remain until every Albanian is released. I would like to alert the international community that we, the imprisoned, are Kosovo's citizens and as such we should be handed over to UNMIK according to UN Security Council Resolution 1244, and that is all that the new regime in Belgrade has to do if they want to respect this resolution. It is unacceptable to have "Kosovo courts" in Serbia. This would mean a parallel system, which the international community should not allow. I direct this appeal to the international community because they have sole responsibility for the Albanians held in Serb prisons". On behalf of Flora Brovina, her spouse Ajri Begu. A SILKY DIVORCE OF KOSOVO AND MONTENEGRO FROM BELGRADE In a session, concerning US-Greek relations held, in Athens where the
US ambassador was present, two American analysts, Jan Lesor of the Rand
Corporation and Janusz Bugajski of the Center for Strategic and
International Studies, defended their idea of a silky divorce of Kosovo
and Montenegro from Belgrade and, in fact, they asked for their
independence from Belgrade.
