Radio Pristina Resumes Broadcasts Limited Programming to Begin Today Under OSCE Supervision
The revitalization of Radio Pristina begins today, under the supervision of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). Broadcasts begin at 16:00 in Albanian on 91.9 FM, at 17:00 in Serbian on 99.2 FM and at 18:00 in Turkish on 93.3 FM.
The first broadcast will provide a new kind of public news service, prepared by local journalists. Broadcasts will also include programming contributed by UNMIK Radio.
The staff of the OSCE and UNMIK are dedicated to helping Kosovo’s people create a new RTP (Radio and Television Pristina) which serves all of Kosovo’s communities, said Special Representative of the Secretary General, Bernard Kouchner.
With a view to aiding the development of independent media in Kosovo, an independent media board and a regulatory commission will be established in the coming days. These bodies will develop a framework on which to build new democratic media in Kosovo. An international director will be appointed to reform the programming and management of RTP.
Today’s broadcast represents a first step toward revitalizing RTP, which will take many more months of work.
