KTC Deplores Violence Against UNMIK and KFOR and Urges FRY President to Release Kosovo Prisoners

PRISTINA---The Kosovo Transitional Council today issued the following statement:

"The Kosovo Transitional Council deplores in the strongest possible terms the recent upsurge in violence against members of the international presence in Kosovo, in particular UNMIK police and KFOR. These acts are destabilising Kosovo and are playing into the hands of extremists on all sides.

"We would also like to re-affirm our full support to UNMIK and KFOR for its efforts to maintain stability and establish law and order in Kosovo. On this occasion, the KTC appeals to the French EU Presidency and the UN Security Council to do its utmost to secure the release of all Kosovo detainees in Serbia.

"In the interest of moving the peace process forward, the KTC appeals once more to President Kostunica to act immediately to release all Kosovo prisoners."
