SRSG Kouchner Signs Regulation Repealing Discriminatory Legislation Affecting Housing and Property Rights

Pristina - Bernard Kouchner, Special Representative of the Secretary General, has signed a regulation repealing discriminatory legislation affecting housing and property rights in Kosovo.

Legal experts of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo had found the laws to be contrary to international human rights standards.

Therefore, the following two laws were repealed by the SRSG:

The Law on Changes and Supplements on the Limitation of Real Estate Transactions (Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia 22/91 of 18 April 1991);

The Law on Conditions, Ways and procedures of Granting Farming Land to Citizens Who Wish to Work and Live in the Territory of the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija (Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia, 43/91 of 20 July 1991).
