CRIMEWATCH
31 January 2003
(Luan Qorraj)
Hello and welcome to this week’s radio edition of
Crimewatch:
Last week we spoke about two double murders that happened in
Mitrovica region and which are still unsolved.
Today we will talk about two, more unsolved murder cases,
this time from the Kosovan capitol, Prishtina:
The first one we’ll be talking about is the gruesome murder
of an 80-year old lady, Fetije Pasjaca, which happened in December 2002.
Someone had broken into the Apartment in which Fetije was living and,
apparently, found the old lady sleeping. After hitting her a couple of times
the unknown murderer, or murderers, put a pillow over Mrs. Pasjaca’s face and
choked a helpless old lady to death. Bahrije Bllaca, an investigator in Prishtina
region who is assigned to this case, speaks of what the police found when they
got to the crime scene:
Bahrije Bllaca: The late Fetije Pasjaca was
living alone. When found, she was lying on her bed and her entire face was
covered with blood and there was a pillow over her face.
The fact that is puzzling
the investigators is the apparent lack of motive in this gruesome murder.
Apparently there was nothing missing in the flat and she didn’t seem to have
any enemies. Fetije Pasjaca was living alone ever since the death of her
husband and no witnesses came forward with any information that might help the
police.
Hysen Pajaca is the
brother of late Fetije is as puzzled by the murder of his sister as are the
police. He says that no one could have had a motive for killing her:
Hysen Pajaca: her reports with the
neighbors, on the first place, were excellent with the family also. An
80-year-old lady, who was also very weak, couldn’t have had misunderstandings
with anyone. We cannot doubt anyone we left this to the police. I think that
light will be shed on her death.
And until it happens,
there would be an open investigation on the murder of a helpless old lady. Any
information you might have on this case would be most welcome. Details of who
to call, in confidence, at the end of the program.
A crime that most
Prishtina inhabitants remember with unease is the murder of young Benet Rexhepi
in March 2000.
Benet, a student who was at the time of his death working
for the Prishtina UNHCR office, was a well liked figure in Prishtina. His
student record was excellent and all those who knew him remember him as an
always-smiling individual who never had a grudge against anyone, and never made
any enemies. He was recently engaged, held a good job and had a lot of friends.
Most people believed that he had a shining future ahead of him:
On the evening of 9th of March 2000 Benet, as
usual, went out into town with his fiancé. They spent a few hours in town and
then they decided it was time to go home. Benet took his fiancé home first. She
was the last person to see him alive:
TV Narrator: After he said goodbye to his
fiancé Benet walked towards his flat in Sunny hill.
He took his usual route
obviously without suspecting that someone may be waiting for him. Everything
seemed to be as usual until he reached Ulpiana Park, a poorly lit place that is
usually, empty at night:
TV Narrator: the killer, a long-haired
young man, professional was waiting for him in the Ulpiana Park. Benet was shot
with two bullets from a two meter distance.
This murder, like that of Fetije Pasjaca is still puzzling
the investigators in Prishtina region and the police would appreciate any
information that would lead to the capture of the murderers.
