Jaywalkers

The red light for walkers will not aymore mean only forbiddance for jaywalkers.

But also 25 euro fine for those who do not respect it.

No ..no.. you didn’t hear wrong ..

Very soon KPS together with UNMIKpolice will start to fine the jaywalkers that do not respect the sign’s.

For the moment police are only advising the citizens ,to not pas the street when the red light is on for them.

And this is happening as a part of a larger campaign which aims to make conscious the people about the danger’s on trafik .And with this also lower the number of accidents.

Jeton Rexhepi from Kosovo Police Service explains that the Campaign is not valid only for jaywalkers but also for other member of trafick.

“This campaign has to phases: the first one is about education of citizens through media and thorugh direct contact

And second phase will contain ,all punishment measures for drivers and for jaywalkers.”

Punishment measures will not only indicate in improvement of the trafick.

But in interactive way will also indicate in the rasie of Kosovar consolidated budget

In ministry of economy and finance say that last year, Kosovar concolidated budget received almost 5 milion euro’s from trafick fines

Agim Krasniqi director of budget explains that all this money first comes to central budget.

“And in the end as a personal income the money goes back to municipalities ,which use the money for they’re own purposes or need’s.”

In other word’s every municipality in the end get’s back the money from the fines that were collected in their territory.

Last year the top place for the trafick fines belonged to the municipality of Prishtina ,wich collected around 600.000 euro’s

Second was Prizren

Inhabitants of the top trafick fine city for the last year ,support the police action.

Allthough some of them think that the fine is a bit high.

The message that comes out from this story is very clear.

Walkers do not pass in a red light ,because apart from putting your self in danger ,you may have also to pay 25 euro fine

When we are at 25 euro…

May it’s better that sometime you break this rule ,because that way you will make contribution to the Kosovar consolidated budget.
