22 July 2005-Week in Review-By Jens Laerke

üThe bridge in Mitrovica in northern Kosovo - which connects the ethnic communities of Serb and Albanian - was opened for traffic 24 hours a day this week. 

üThe media reported Tuesday on a meeting between UNMIK chief Soren jessen-Petersen and leaders of the non-serbian minorities in Kosovo.

üThe provisional institutions in Kosovo is set to take charge of police and justice affairs by the end of the year, and two new ministries will be established.

 üThe European Union foreign policy chief, Javier Solana’s, visit to Pristina 

üPresident Rugova, the leaders of the four main political parties, and UNMIK chief Soren Jessen-Petersen met for the third session of the Kosovo Forum on Thursday.

üIn the former Yugoslav republic of Macedonia, the parliament has adopted a law on the use of flags

üAnd finally from the world of the United Nations: UN peacekeepers are not trained well enough in the prevention of HIV/Aids

21 July 2005-Vocational Training-EAR-By Arta Pllana

The Kosovo Vocational Educational Training project (KOSVET) aims to train teachers and students in various fields of electronics. It provides more then 500 participants in 10 schools across Kosovo with the latest technical knowledge and skills.

20 July 2005-Multilanguage Radio Station in Novo Brdo-By Andrea Saula

Since one month and a half ago residents of the village of Novo Brdo have a local radio station. Multi ethnic NGO “Youth Voice” launched the first local media in this poor municipality in southeastern Kosovo.

19 July 2005-Srebrenica 10TH Anniversary(Part 2)-By Zoran Culafic

July 11, 2005 marked 10th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre, when Bosnian Serb military forces murdered in a few days almost 8.000 Bosniack, men and boys. Srebrenica massacre is considered to be a worst massacre on European spoil since World War Two.

United Nations development program in Kosovo UNDP is working on a agricultural project that aims to help farmers of Kosovo found co-operatives. So far UNDP helped found 5 cooperatives 3 in municipality of Skenderaj and 2 in municipality of Shtimje.

12 July 2005 -Micro –Credit Fund Institution in Peja -By Arta Pllana

Micro finance institute AFK in Peja was established by NGO Mercy Corps in October 2000. At the time people hardly had access to banks. Therefore this institution was very welcome for the small businesses in the region. Now the organization has grown big and helped out hundreds of entrepreneurs with loans.

The settlement of Kosovo’s status is of interest of the entire region - the solution should be the one that stabilizes and normalizes the region and makes it possible for the states in the region to deepen their regional integrations, this was part of the conclusion of the SRSG Soren Jessen Petersen briefing for media representatives from Serbia, Macedonia and Albania, which was given at UNMIK HQ.

Members of the fiscal committee for succession of ex Yugoslavia ’s wealth met in Skopje some months ago and reached a final agreement on how to split the wealth of ex Yugoslavia . Although Kosovo was not represented in the meeting, the decisions taken may have implications for Kosovo as well.
