31 March 2005-Interview Pascale Fieschi-By Jackson Allers & Danielle Bremer

The OSCE head Pascale Fieschi is leaving Kosovo (WHEN) after his mandate ended, and he’ll be replaced by German diplomat Werner Wnendt who is excepted to take the post in mid April this year. Jackson Allers from UN Radio in Kosovo talked to Mr. Fieschi prior his departure.

Child labor is widespread in Kosovo. Many children work offten under dangerous, unhealthy conditions and until the late night hours, while dropping out of the schools. Kosovo Law forbids child labor, but still it is not easy to end this practice.

24 March 2005-New schooling-initiative for deaf children in Kosovo-By Danielle Bremer

Many deaf and hard of hearing children in Kosovo mature without a proper education. There are limited schooling options available to them and often parents do not have enough money to pay the travel costs associated with shuttling back and forth to these schools. UN Radio reports on a new school for deaf children in Gjilan that is addressing this educational divide

22 March 2005-Dialogue on Missing Resumed-By Andrea Saula

The Pristina-Belgrade dialogue on missing person’s was renewed in March after more than a one year hiatus. Serbian and Kosovo delegations adopted a general framework and rules of procedure for the return of the missing - agreeing to use a provisional list of missing persons compiled by the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC). UN Radio in Kosovo has this report.

16 March 2005-SRSG Visits Decani-By UNMIK Radio/TV

Kosovo’s ex-Prime Minister, Ramush Haradinaj, appeared in court at The Hague war crimes tribunal on Monday - pleading not-guilty to 37 counts against him – 17 counts of crimes against humanity and 20 counts of violations of the laws or customs of war. In a trust-building measure, top administrator, SRSG Søren Jessen-Petersen went to the Decani region in western Kosovo on Friday where support for the former prime minister is most active. UN Radio has this report.

With over four million participants, European Computer Driving License foundation is the world’s leading end-user computer skills certification programme. ECDL training is available in 135 countries and has been translated into 32 languages making it a global benchmark adopted by Governments, international organizations and the international business community alike. The European Commission recommends ECDL as the basic IT accreditation scheme for all Member States, and ECDL Course’s have now been introduced in Kosovo.

The first local elections since Macedonia transferred powers to local government will be held this Sunday. Some analysts fear a political crisis as this is the first significant municipal election since the decentralization process was instituted after the Ohrid Peace Agreement in 2001 which stopped six months of fighting between Albanians and Macedonian security forces.

02 March 2005 -Kosovo  after UNSC meeting-By Zoran culafic

UN Mission Head, SRSG Søren Jessen-Petersen presented his quarterly report on the political and security situation in Kosovo to the United Nations Security Council late last week. Jessen-Petersen’s report was the last before a May Security Council meeting that will comprehensively evaluate where Kosovo stands with implementing the 8 democratic standards that will determine the province’s future status. But, as UN Radio Reports, leaders from Pristina and Belgrade remain entrenched in their expectations for Kosovo’s future – independence or not?
