May 27th 2004 -OSCE Report on Human Rights-ByZoran Culafic

On the 17th of March 2004, teachers led their students onto the bridge connecting north and south Mitrovicë/Mitrovica in a protest against the deaths of three Kosovo Albanian children who were, according to Pristina media, chased into the Ibar River by Kosovo Serbs with a dog. Three hours later, six persons had been killed and houses throughout Kosovo were in flames

May 26 2004 -Roma Refugees-By Andrea Saula

Nearly 2500 Roma refugees from Kosovo, who fled in 1999 to Macedonia, have been abandoned- left without any Governmental or International aid or attention. The Ombudsperson of Kosovo recently wrote a letter to Macedonian authorities pledging to find some solution for these Kosovans.

May 21tst 2004 -Agro-Klina- By Valon A Syla

For the first time, Kosovan farmers have gathered together in Klina to produce compost, which for the last 5 years has been imported from abroad. With the help from the Swiss Government, farmers in the region hope the boost in domestic compost production will prompt more Kosovans to plant on their land.

An estimated three million women are victims of human trafficking world-wide - 200.000 alone from Eastern Europe and Russia, according to data compiled by the International Organisation for Migration, or IOM.

The UNMIK administration in Kosovo is continuing the process of handing over competencies to Kosovans. One of the examples is Kosovo Correction Service….A second generation of officers with the Kosovo Correction Service just graduated adding 11 more Kosovan officers to the corps who will now assume roles as Deputy Directors in Kosovo's prisons and detention centers.

On the 1st of May 2004, 10 new states joined the European Union and became a part of a dream that many in Kosovo strive towards. But the question remains, are Kosovans capable of fulfilling all the requirements and conditions in order to be a part of this Union?
UNMIK on Air took to the streets to ask: "People say the future is with Europe. What do you think?"

May 11th 2004 -Art without Borders- By Andrea Saula

The Organization of Young Artists, a Kosovo- based NGO held a multi-ethnic art exhibition entitled "Art Without Borders".
Young artists were invited from Kosovo, Albania, and Macedonia to display a range of their artwork from paintings to video art, and installation pieces. The exhibition was held for one day in Pristina with the hopes of being invited to other countries in the future.

Forests make up 42 percent of the territory in Kosovo, making it arguably one of the greatest natural resources in the region. Throughout history the forest has been used and treated in different ways but often not in the right and appropriate one. In this edition of UNMIK on Air, we look at how the forest is being used in light of recent laws implemented by the Forestry Ministry.

Nearly four years after the conflict in Kosovo health remains one of the most problematic areas in Kosovo society. Workers in the public health sector are calling for legislation and incentives for public health employees in order to improve treatment and facilities.
