Emphasizes that the humanitarian situation will continue
to deteriorate in the absence of a political solution to

Foreign Ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan,
the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United
States on 6 May 1999 (S/1999/516), and urges all concerned
to work towards this aim.

cease hostilities and maintain a ceasefire in Kosovo. Demands
further that the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, in addition
to the measures called for under resolution 1160 (1998),

solution to the situation in Kosovo as contained in the
Contact Group statement of 12 June 1998. Requests the Secretary-General
to provide regular reports to the Council as necessary on
his assessment of compliance with this resolution.

arms embargo against Yugoslavia]

Decides that all States shall, for the purposes of fostering
peace and stability in Kosovo, prevent the sale or supply
to Yugoslavia, including Kosovo, of arms and related material
of all types and shall prevent arming and training for terrorist
activities there. Also decides to establish a committee
of the Security Council to seek information from all States
regarding the action taken by them concerning the effective
implementation of the prohibitions imposed by this resolution
and to report on its work to the Council. Decides to review
the situation on the basis of the reports of the Secretary-General,
which will take into account the assessments of, inter alia,
the Contact Group, OSCE and the European Union.
